“BEST OF” Block’s Cape Fear Anthologies to Emerge Soon

Cape Fear Museum is proud to announce the publication of a jewel of a new book! Cape Fear, a compilation of 3 photo histories by local author Susan Taylor Block, is scheduled for release May 29. As part of a new Arcadia Publishing series, Scenes of Americ:, Cape Fear will be marketed as a $8.95 gift book.

Susan Taylor Block wrote Along the Cape Fear (1998), Cape Fear Lost (1999), and Cape Fear Beaches (2000) at the request of, and for the benefit of, Cape Fear Museum. Drawing largely from the museum’s collection of over 10,000 images, Ms. Block chose and illuminated hundreds of photos that showcase Wilmington’s rich history. Her diligent research yielded many new identifications, long-forgotten stories, and fresh ways of looking at old pictures. In the process, she discovered and recruited many more vintage photographs for the Cape Fear Museum collection.

The new book, Scenes of America: Cape Fear, showcases the best photographs and unveils new bits of information the author has discovered since the photos were first published. But Susan Taylor Block’s rare caption writing style stays the same. As Ben Steelman, book critic for the Wilmington Star News, said recently on the UNCW television show, Let’s Read, “Susan might just possibly be the best cut line writer in the American southeast.”
